USAGE:
(1.) Внешне похожие русские и английские названия игры в карты различаются формами согласования с глаголом; русское существительное карты используется с глаголом в форме множественного числа, а английское cards - с глаголом в единственном числе: cards is often played at parties на вечерах часто играют в карты. Так же используются и другие английские названия игр: draughts - шашки. Такую форму, сходную с формой множественного числа, имеют и другие названия игр - в русском языке они соответствуют названию в единственном числе: billiards - бильярд, dominoes - домино. (2.) Cards и другие названия игр употребляются без артикля: to play cards (football, tennis) играть в карты (футбол, теннис); to win (to lose) money at cards выигрывать (проигрывать) деньги в карты; he is lucky at cards ему везет в карты; a game of chess (tennis) партия в шахматы (теннис).
